| "What started out as an attempt to offload some extra work that we couldn’t
handle ourselves because of the tight resource situation on the Dutch IT market, has turned into real collaboration.
New projects are outlined in close cooperation and managed together. Our clients are informed of the outsourcing
beforehand and we explain to them how the development and delivery processes are structured. For me, EXECOM is
rapidly becoming the fourth floor of our own building but for a very long stairs." |

Customer

Chess is a leading developer and producer of ICT innovations for electronic products, microelectronics,
embedded software, and ICT applications. The company delivers solutions on the basis of the managed chain
concept – an integrated solution in which various components collaborate without interfaces in a
network situation. Chess specializes in innovative technical systems and business-critical solutions and
develops sophisticated solutions for electronic systems, transactions & electronic payments, Machine to
Machine (M2M) systems, sensor applications and digital multimedia. Chess takes responsibility for production
and delivers its products and services on a project basis. The company participates actively in R&D
networks as well as partnerships with its customers.
Project overview

The existing application of Chess’ customer – company specialized in data depersonalization was
no longer able to satisfy complex requirements. The purpose of the solution that was to be developed would be
adding new features to system for depersonalization of confident medical data and their flow between three
companies: Agency for statistics, Customer Company and Government Agency. The flow is simple: the first party
collects medical history data and submits the input file to a Government Agency through the Central module of
the customer company. But the catch was in retaining the anonymity of medical patients. During transition
medical history data must not reveal privacy related details to any of included participants. Accordingly,
it was necessary to provide more secure service to end users and reliable reporting system where privacy is
guaranteed by substituting personal details with pseudonyms. Additional security measure would be ensured by
implementing secure FTP protocol for data interchange.
Execom solution

Regarding previously successfully delivered projects, EXECOM was once again Chess’ choice for an
outsourcing partner. The part of EXECOM’s job was to develop a system for:
- sending the input file
- creating delivery reports and
- final report process
Solution had to be implemented without using a database. Another great technical challenge of delivering
such a system was that 2GB of input data had to be processed within 30 minutes. Finally, project was
strictly time-constrained: the system had to go alive in exactly 8 weeks, by January 1st. Delay was
not an option.
The first step for EXECOM developers was to depersonalize real medical history and personal data collected
in the input file which is later parsed to output file “on the fly”. That way parsing application
stays lightweight utilizing system resources intelligently.
When the file is sent by secure FTP server to the customer company, newly developed system creates delivery
reports. Upon the reception of the file the Central module of the Customer Company depersonalizes the content
of the file once more to guarantee the security. The flow of the file continues to Government Agency in the
form of zipped txt file. As a confirmation of the successful reception, the system creates parsing report.
At the end the goal is achieved: the final medical report containing no personal related information monitored
by the Government.
Benefits

This project fulfilled all input requirements. It was delivered on time, within budget and fully satisfied
quality expectations. It led to a full satisfaction of all companies involved. The greatest benefits can be
seen as follows:
- EXECOM deployed reliable system which can be used for various purposes and by different companies;
- Chess and EXECOM have established a strong partnership which continues with new projects;
- The customer company continued cooperation with both EXECOM and Chess;
- Data security has been brought up to a greater level;
- Employees have shared knowledge and promoted the latest technologies;
- EXECOM team has once again showed great flexibility and open mindset.
