| “What started out as an attempt to offload some extra work that we
couldn’t handle ourselves because of the tight resource situation on the Dutch IT market, has turned
into real collaboration. New projects are outlined in close cooperation and managed together. Our clients
are informed of the outsourcing beforehand and we explain to them how the development and delivery processes
are structured. For me, EXECOM is rapidly becoming the fourth floor of our own building but for a very long
stairs.” |

Customer

Chess is a leading developer and producer of ICT innovations for electronic products, microelectronics,
embedded software, and ICT applications. The company delivers solutions on the basis of the managed chain
concept – an integrated solution in which various components collaborate without interfaces in a
network situation. Chess specializes in innovative technical systems and business-critical solutions
and develops sophisticated solutions for electronic systems, transactions & electronic payments,
Machine to Machine (M2M) systems, sensor applications and digital multimedia. Chess takes responsibility
for production and delivers its products and services on a project basis. The company participates actively
in R&D networks as well as partnerships with its customers.
Project overview

Basic goal of the project was to upgrade the existing electronic payslip system. Besides multiple functionalities,
the system had to be improved with new feature - access to payslip reports for end users through company web
portal. EXECOM’s task was to develop a system that enables parsing, matching and storing data for every user
from input payroll file to internal Oracle database while, on client’s request, each payslip
file can also be presented on the portal in PDF format. Because of confidential personal information, the system
had to accomplish high security standards.
Execom solution

Chess outsourced the programming activities to EXECOM on the basis of previous successfully delivered projects
and the quality of provided services. After analysis and knowledge transfer with Chess development team
EXECOM implemented the required application in specified time frame and within budget. EXECOM experts have come
up with the solution that is easily maintained, modified, upgraded, and also reconfigurable to suit different
needs that may arise.
In order to efficiently deliver the solution, development team deeply analysed electronic payslip system and
data flow through its four layers:
- Graphical user interface
- Business layer
- Data access layer
- Oracle database
Added functionality enabled access to payslip data for employees of the user company. The system supports certain
number of clients, where each client can include as many users as desired. Once logged in with unique ID number,
employee (the user in the system) is able to access own monthly payslips with an option to print or save them.
All input data (payroll files) is sent to the system from data/content supplier by secure ftp server. Output is
a payslip recognized by personal ID for every user. The output data are also secured by secure web service
using https protocol and client certificates.
Moreover, demo application has been developed as an example portal that could be used for selling the current
system to other prospect clients – thus making outcome of this project as a product in accounting portfolio
with bright future and business opportunity.
Benefits

Thanks to devoted approach and great knowledge transfer project participants have obtained many major interests:
- Improved software quality and reliability;
- Execom deployed a secure system which can be easily used;
- Chess and Execom have established a strong partnership which enables promoting of new technologies;
- Partnership between companies continues with new projects;
- The end users have gained on fast access to personal data.
